The situation for first-time buyers has developed into a real social problem. The average house price is now seven times the average salary and set to reach nine and a half times by 2026 (Halifax 2007). The number of first-time buyers coming onto the market has significantly dropped over the last few years and many first-time buyers are more reliant than ever before on help from parents to get their foot on the property ladder. Most first-time buyers aspire to own their own home and are very unhappy about the prospects of renting long-term.
NHMB is campaigning to highlight the issues facing first-time buyers and practical solutions to assist them.
